A walk through the secluded woodlands of Denny Wood, with its fine ancient oak and beech trees. You’ll explore Stubbby Copse and Parkhill Inclosures before descending to Holmhill Passage and enjoying the views over White Moor.

Route

Follow the tarmac road through the campsite into Denny Wood. After 800m, continue straight ahead at the junction with the cycle path. Go over the top of the hill and continue downhill past Denny Lodge and Denny Cottage.

Continue on the gravel path past some open fields and go through the inclosure gate.

After 1km take the marked cycle path, at cycle network marker post 301, to the right. Continue through the woodland for another 1.5km, through two gates in quick succession, until you reach a cycle route crossroads – cycle network marker post number 287.

Turn right at the crossroads and continue for 750m. Take a left turn followed by a right turn. After 800m turn right, remaining on the gravel cycle path. After you reach the inclosure gate, continue straight across the open grassland, passing Beechan Lane on your left, and through another gate.

Follow the path as it eventually heads downhill, curves to the left and crosses a footbridge taking you across a stream. Climb uphill until the path meets the Beaulieu Road.

Cross the road and turn right on to the track to Matley Wood. Follow the path behind the car park and walk down to the bottom of the hill. Follow the roadside path the short distance up the hill to the entrance to Denny Wood campsite.
