While the New Forest is relatively easy to explore, sometimes having an expert guide on hand can reveal more about your surroundings and the fascinating stories and history of the forest. The following groups and organisations offer a variety of bespoke or organised tours.

New Forest Walking Festival

The annual event, organised by the National Park Authority for the last decade, takes place each autumn. It brings together a range of experts to lead dozens of guided events from wildlife walks to historic meanders, forest bathing to fungi spotting, bird watching to ranger rambles – highlighting the unique countryside, wildlife, culture and history of the New Forest.

Wild New Forest

Wild New Forest offers a wide variety of guided wildlife tours to suit all ages and abilities, including regular scheduled walks and private bespoke tours. Expert naturalists lead seasonal walks, focussing on topics such as bird song, bats, and fungi, as well as wildlife identification workshops and shorter walks aimed at kids and families.

The local branch of the national Ramblers Association campaign group has a busy programme of social group walks of varying distances throughout the forest.

New Forest Healthy Walks

New Forest Healthy Walks Scheme encourages people of all ages to join regular, short walks in their own communities. Led by trained volunteers, the walks are designed to be fun, free and supportive.

Brockenhurst Donkey Walks

If you’d like a four-legged companion for your walk, Brockenhurst Donkey Walks offer escorted walks with donkeys of up to 60 minutes with the chance of seeing New Forest ponies and donkeys grazing in their natural habitat. The family-friendly walks are on gravel tracks, heaths and through ancient woodland and run throughout the summer months.

Lymington Town Walks

Established in 1986, Lymington Town Tours offers a repertoire of eleven walks in Lymington, Milford and the surrounding areas. They explore the history of the area, its buildings, interesting characters, and promise a host of good stories along the way. All the guides are volunteers and you can join a walk for a donation of £5 per head to cover their costs.
