Take a walk through Lyndhurst next weekend and you’ll come across some rather odd-looking, straw-stuffed characters.
The village’s much-loved Scarecrow Trail returns on 11-12 October.
Now in its fifth year, the community event has become a firm fixture in the local calendar.
The trail brings together 87 businesses and homes, each creating their own unique scarecrow to be discovered across the village. This number of creations makes it the biggest trail so far!
Hannah Chalk, co-creator of the trail and parent at the school said: “We are so proud that the Scarecrow Trail has reached its fifth year and continues to grow.
“Each year the creativity and support from our village community is incredible. We can’t wait t see what scarecrows appear this time and we’re hopeful for another fantastic weekend which raises such vital funds for our local infant school St Michael & All Angels.’
Last year well over a thousand visitors enjoyed finding as many scarecrows as possible which, not only raised money for the local school but also gave local businesses a welcome boost.
There will once again be a prize for “best in show’ with last year’s “Saddle Up Saloon’ taking the crown.
Map buyers are encouraged to vote for their favourite and everyone will be entered into a raffle to win a hamper packed with goodies from local businesses.
Trail maps are £2 each (cash only) and are available from the Co-Op on Lyndhurst High Street from Saturday 4th October and all proceeds go to St Michael & All Angels Infant School.
The Stag Lyndhurst is also hosting a free, family friendly barn dance on the Saturday, featuring live Ceilidh music, dancing and food and drink.
