The dates for the 2026 New Forest Walking Festival have been announced.

This year the popular event will run for two weeks from 17 October, the New Forest National Park Authority (NPA) has said.

Organisers have promised guided walks for all abilities – against a backdrop of autumnal colours. Further details of this year’s walks are yet to be released.

Last year the festival marked the 20th anniversary of the New Forest being designated a National Park.

Highlights of this year’s walks are local researcher and folklore historian Vikki Bramshaw exploring the legend and myths associated with the death of King William II – Rufus – in the New Forest 1100.

There is a chance to learn about the forest’s unique range of fungi, how to identify different types and discover more about their ecology and the vital role that they play in nature.\\

And a Green Careers Netwalk is aimed at anyone wanting to work, volunteer or study in the environmental sector within the forest.
