More long-distance train services are set to stop in the New Forest following an updated timetable from CrossCountry.
The operator announced there would be new direct connections to Brockenhurst in its timetable changes which come into effect from 17 May.
Travellers will benefit from the reintroduction of hourly calls at the New Forest station, seven days a week.
Improved links from the Midlands and the North – via Rreading and Southampton Central will support more sustainable tourism to one of the UK’s popular leisure destinations, CrossCountry said.
Typical journey times to Brockenhurst from Birmingham are about three hours.
In the centre of the New Forest, Brockenhurst is a great hub for walks, and is the stepping off point for a number of trails in the surrounding woods and heathlands.
There is also the opportunity for train-to-train walks to link up with other stations along the South West main line through the forest.
Shiona Rolfe, CrossCountry’s Managing Director, said the increase in stops at Brockenhurst was “recognising the popularity of the New Forest and the importance of more sustainable UK tourism.
“More widely, the timetable allows us to better match supply with demand, provide more services on our key long‑distance corridors and restore much‑valued regional connectivity,” she added.
New Forest National Park Authority chair Victoria Mander said the new services would “offer more convenient travel choices for both residents and visitors travelling to and within the New Forest”
“By strengthening connections, they boost sustainable travel, reduce impacts on the National Park and improve access to jobs, skills and business opportunities across the region.”
